RE: twilight

Interesting fact, which few(joel) would suspect: I have read all the books.

I know...yeah, no, really - all of 'em.

How's the movie?

How surprising.

I think the books are quite odd.
Her book "The Host" was good. I suggest that as a read.

In my defense, I read the books because Adaeze bought them while we were in montreal...

Oh, Ashraf, you have no idea how my respect level has gone down in reading that post....

except right after typing that, I saw that you read them because your girlfriend (WHO I HAVE STILL NOT MET) bought them. So, more excusable. But still, you should... I dunno, watch some hockey or something to make up for reading Twilight.

Haha! no, I'm reading The decline and Fall of the Roman Empire to sufficiently restore my grasp on eloquent discourse.

the story wasn't too bad once I got into it (but Adaeze was mad at me becuase i was critical commentary/deconstruction the whole time)

I should freely admit - my opinions on this are based on popular discourse and my loose knowledge of the plot as I have not seen the film nor read the books.

Now that the disclaimer is aside - my problem with Twilight is that storylinewise, it's all about the perfect female fantasy, that she can take a male that is in some way "wrong" - evil, bad, something like that - and yet have the perfect relationship of love. It's complete pap designed to further the cultural paradigm of women always going for the guys who are problematic.

I guess it's just a little annoying to see all these women swooning over a fictional character that not only plays into but reinforces narrative stereotypes about women desiring relationships with men that have severe flaws. When the flipside occurs, and men consume narrative that plays into and reinforces their own stereotypical desires - usually involving large breasts and/or things exploding, there is nothing but a sea of cluck cluck and criticism...

hahahahaha. or, I just think the books are dumb.

I thought the movie was horrible! Don't waste your time...
I am also suprised that you have read the WHOLE series.
If you want to see a really amazing movie watch Slumdog Millionaire!!
